Used in industry for just over one century, the vast range of applications set aluminium apart from all other materials, making it of great importance in the world economy. It is extracted from bauxite mineral which, after being broken and ground down, is transported to drying furnaces and transformed into alumina; the process of electrolysis breaks this down into oxygen which volatilizes whilst the aluminium deposits on the bottom. Aluminium is increasingly used and world production is constantly on the rise. It is not only suitable for making the most sophisticated forms but also lends itself well to being combined with other materials. In actual fact Ycami uses aluminium along with woods, textiles and plastic materials, giving the collection a clearly defined character with a mix of materials whereby each element underscores the other.
